not a gang member,so wouldnt know,i belive some of thr regulars haunt a couple of bars full of foriegners but you dont want to do that, get to know moscow ,lovley place avoid expat bars.......dump the wife ,and check out a couple of night bars ie......platinum....then night flight ...best plank steak in town and you can take the wife and then if you are really desperate and like casinos, blow your wad at shangri la................then after a long tiresome night stop into the starlite for the american breakfast.

Thanks for the info. Not looking for Russian women (already have a great one). We've been to Moscow a few times and seen the regular tourist stuff. Just was wondering if there are any picnics or other normal (?) activities being planned so we could get more inside info on everday life in the big city from you long term residents.

hold on ...........picnics..........maybe you should read the social values of some of the members .............sex,drink,drugs,more drink thats what i read, not a lot of picnics and flower picking .........wrong site i think, try american womens club moscow in the moscow times they meet fairly regular ,sewing baking and picnics.

WHAT ? Sorry, Equalizer, I totally disagree. This site has 3 thousand members of varying social values and interests. Don't stereotype the entire site.

I don't know Hal, I think equalizer has expats pretty much pegged.

It's a stereotype. I thought we tried to avoid them, generally.

You've never met happily married and family-oriented expatriates ? I have. Plenty of 'em, and many of 'em are on this site.

That others feel they don't exist can only attest to a limited experience or perception, and that's pretty sad, I think.

It may be sad....but have you read Cafe in the last couple of weeks? Where are these family-oriented expats of which you speak? There sure not posting in there. But then again, why would they?

I don't mean YOU'RE sad. I think IT'S sad that there's an unfortunate stereotype that people subscribe to. If you were and are not someone who amuses himself with "sex, drugs and drink", I'm sure you wouldn't be too pleased at being pegged as such, merely because you're an "expat".

Where are these family-oriented expats of which you speak?

Is that a rhetorical question ? Do you really want to say that among three thousand members of this site, not a single one is a happily married, family-oriented person who doesn't partake in drink and drugs ?

FYI: Family orientated people can also drink a lot and do drugs, what's with all this evangalist sh*t?

I mean they can and they do.

Well, that's kind of my point, isn't it ? There are married people and single people. There may be married people snorting coke, and single people who prefer church. To say that everyone entertains themselves and classify themselves with "drink, drugs, and sex" is misleading.

I'm not attaching any value to it, but others most definitely are, and it's a stereotype.

Word.

Perfect families don't exist anyway and people are all different and it's nothing to do with being expat.

Can I be a monotype ? I have no truck with these modern new fangled gadgets ....

the guy asked a question and got numerous replys, then he also saw how varied our views are, surely he is satisfied....all that for free of charge, some folks pay planners a fortune for that

My husband has been in Moscow now for nearly 8 months...I encourage him to go out if he wants but he never does. Hell I'd go to see too, I'm not the jealous type and actually notice things before him. He is a handsome guy too. Married does not mean dead or unfun. We find plenty to do with each other and on top we have 2 small children that we adore. In fact many of the families we have met here are not crazy for the "expat" night life scene. They are simply enjoying Moscow.
