Just a new joke:

- Will the new Pope Benedict XVI visit Russia?
- Defenitely, he will. These two Germans (His Holiness Joseph Ratzinger - the new Pope and His Holiness Alexy Redieger - Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia) - will find the common language :-)

As long as he doesn't have any trouble checking that Ankh through the gate at Lufthansa, he'll be fine.

He doesn't seem set to change anything that John Paul II was working on, and if he doesn't it's unlikely that Alexei II will feel that the Vatican has made any steps toward righting what he feels are problems remaining to be resolved before a Pope visits Russia.

So, my guess is no, we won't see the Pope here anytime soon.

Don't know, actually. That's what the Orthodox church said every time they negged John Paul. Probably something to do with Catholics encroaching on Orthodox 'business', and the like. Who knows.
