Besides the usual chain stores, M Video, Technosila etc etc. Does anyone know of a specialist HiFi store in Moscow?

Not in the same category as HiFi I guess, but does anyone know if and where I might find 'Goodman' equipment in Moscow. I'm looking for a Mini music system that the British version of What HiFi highly recommends for a system costing about Sterling 100.

Add to the above.
If anybody knows of a 'Richer Sounds' type place in Moscow, ie selling last years equipments for 1/3rd the price (unlike most Moscow places which seem to sell last years equipment for 2x the price). Please post details!

Pobman - LOL!

Wolfie - The only other places I have seen fall into the "elitniye domashniye audio" category and would be even more expensive than Eldorado etc... Gorbushka or the electronics rinok at Rizhskaya could be good bets for this kind of thing or perhaps one of the online buying portals (I can't remember the names unfortunately because I've never used them...).

If the thing turned out to be much more expensive here, maybe getting it from Amazon/dixons online via IPS would be an option??

Pobman - I would love to see a place like Richer Sounds open...only a matter of time I suppose (hope)!

Well many years ago there used to be a very upmarket HiFi store located in the corner of the second floor of that 'Passage' on Pokrovsky. Might even be called Pokrovsky Passage, I can't remember. It was one of the first 'exclusive' shopping centres linking two parallel streets and I have no idea if the Hi Fi place still exists. The advantage of going to such places are that you get to see, hear and play without the hassle of the radio market hussle and bussle. Once you've seen and heard what you want then, is the time to shop around on price. However, in the UK, What Hii is always warning of the pitfalls of buying from the back of vans etc.

El Dorado at Gorbushka has the largest selection of mini systems I have seen anywhere

You might try Purple Legion at Tretyakovskaya. They're into the whole hi-end audio/video thing, though I can't say I've ever paid much attention to their selection.

Can you tell me where Purple Legion is, ie describe from the Metro. I live at that metro and did not know their was a HiFi place there! (Guess I should open my eyes)...

OH hang on... is it the place in the CD shop? in which case I have been there... prices were... um... "interesting"

Yes, that's the place -- hi-fi to your right from the entrance, CDs and DVDs everywhere else.

they are *quite* expensive, and have some pretty exotic stuff - i do believe wolf mentioned something about 100 quid price tag....?

No, I'm not against some mid range to expensive stuff NAD for example but, my post was two fold really as I'd like to buy some separate HiFi components for main listening and the Goodmans Mini system for the kitchen and/or bedroom. I like having music on tap in every room without having the neighbours telling me to turn it down!

Pobman, please tell me how you are having stuff delivered here 'safely' from the UK and how do you go about Custom's Import taxes etc, or perhaps you have a very good friend to hump it here for you?

The First Deptuy Director General of Lukoil Neftekhim is bringing them for me on the Lukoil jet from London. So no problems with import etc etc.

However before this I was just going to ship it out, was going to use TransGlobalExpress who would send it from Heathrow to Russia for 162.50 (Pounds Sterling). This was for 50kg of HiFi kit and included the customs fees, BUT not any actual tax i would need to pay. There were 6 seperate boxes in the quote and it included insurance.

Basically they charge 2.95 UKP per kilo plus customs clearance. Seemed an OK deal... but the Lukoil offer was an even better one :)

Moving in 'high circles' eh! Good luck to you and thanks for the info. Being the lazy so & so that I am, don't suppose you have an email addy for TransGlobal? My last question is - from where did you buy the HiFi stuff in the first place, via Internet or from a catalogue or personal visit?

Add a .co.uk to their name and you have their website : http://www.transglobalexpress.co.uk/I do not remember where I bought it, the sub was from some HiFi shop and the amp from the net. Both were quite a few years ago.
