View Full Version : May Holidays Expat Boat Trip?

DJ Biscuit

Seeing as the centre will practically be closed off between 7th and 10th May and we have some days off, plus who wants to be in the city then, I suggested getting away for a couple of days, like an expat trip.

If anyone thinks this is a good idea and do-able please post belowand vote.

Ideas? Well the first idea I had was to hire a boat for a few days, with a bar, kitchen, disco and cabins and get away from Moscow, not far but far enough. Moor upon the banks for lunch, bar-b-q style etc. Have parties in the evening, disco, live music etc. Everyone gets a cabin, and we get to see some countryside, socialise, sunbathe (?) eat, drink and have FUN!

If interest is lower perhaps a Dacha rented for the period.

The boat tripis possible, I've seen it done, with crew cooking if needed, depending on budget.

If you vote 'other' please post your idea.

So...anyone?

I'm in for the Boat! Splendid idea! (especially looking out of the window - raining gray weather, on a tuesday afternoon!)

It's can be so much fun!

Last time I went on a boat trip here, the place got raided by the narco squad

That was a commercial and weekly club event that went up and down a given route in the centre, I am talking about friends hiring a boat and getting away from it all.

But thanks for playing.

I actually think it sounds like it could be nice and enjoyable and I'd like to go.....but I don't know....we'd maybe need some kind of rules posted on what could and couldn't be said. No nationality wars. No expatella bashing. Just people being people. Can it be done? I have doubts....

More importantly, is there an age limit?

I guess we have more virtual wars and when we meet in real life we all appear to be nice and friendly ppl (my experience)

Pengwn9, I agree, but if people can't actually behave in a civilised and grown up manner in real life I am not sure we want them on a boat! I am sure people will see who is going and decide if they want to socialise with that person. I am sure though that whilethe site sometimes gets bad real life is different.

It was just an idea, it's open to anyone I guess,if someone doesn't like the idea or doesn't want to go they don't have to.

maybe you'd better just choose another boat?? :D

DJ i think the idea is nice however the boat trip would be very dependednt on the weather and if it is chilly and everybody would have to stay inside it wouldn't differ much from having :drink: s in Alb :) However I think that maybe it would be possible to rent some datcha in Serebryany Bor for that purpose? It is on water so always possible to rent smaller boats there and have some fun if the weather is favorable, besides it is still in the city so anybody can join or leave any time they please :) It would be expecially convenient for ppl with small children if such would be eager to come.

Good point but you can't have drinks in The Albion, they're closing off the centre to everybody. It's closed now for chrissake!

I like the Dacha idea you have except if there are kids there I won't set foot within a mile of the place! :D

Why to rent a minivan? Just stop a marshrutka (as my friend calles it "matrjoshka") and give extra 200 roubles to the driver :D :D :D

What about this:

As K-Girl suggested, Serebrinaya Bor, we can meet up there on any of or all of the days from 7th through until the 11th. Arrange to meet at a particualr point, all bring something, booze, food, guitar(?) etc, hire rowing boats etc. Not too formal and you're not stuck on a boat, if it gets boring you can leave, and you can pick your day.

DJB, do you have a $$$ range of what a boat can cost per person: say, a high option with all the bells and whistles and a low option (you choose what it is)?

Thought I might constructively revive this thread (it doesn't happen often so pay attention). My humble suggestion is that those interested should meet down the Albion for a drink and a friendly chat about the very good idea of yesterday. I suggest this evening or tomorrow evening.

DJB, if it's still on the cards then state an evening to meet and those that wish to meet should do so.

If it comes to nothing it's no big deal, we still would have enjoyed a beer and some English Chicken (or Caesar Salad with no sauce in the case of some I know).

What say y'all?:D

If anyone is actually interested let me know and we will organise something for some/one/all of the days between 7 and 11th May. I like the idea of a Monday 9th Beach Bar-b-que. that's goota be THE day to be out of town.

Okay, some good folk have asked me to continue with this idea. I think we should try a less ambitious approach though. Here's the idea.

Get a dacha near Seb Bor from Sunday night (8th May) until Tuesday morning (10th May) and hang on the beach there. Or, more realistically, Monday 9th May organise an expat bar-b-que and have an all day and night thing. Daytime- food, drink, swimming, volleyball, football (soccer) families welcome. Evening music, drink, etc(!)

Anyone?

Two points:
- have you/anyone else checked if there are still dachas available in SB? I mean it's like trying to get an plane ticket two weeks before Xmas.
- perhaps someone from the US or the UK embassy could help get one of their dachas :) I know several years ago it was possible.

Good point,well presented.

First we only have a few different ideas at the moment, nothing concrete, once we are agreed on one or two popular choices, if that's possible, then I suppose take the top two ideas and try get Dachas, boats, bungee ropes, parachutes, handcuffs and blindfolds, depending on what we decide to do.

Embassies is a good call.

I vote for a dacha but in my experience the best way to do it is to let the thread accumulate responses for a few more days and decide (not "agree" - it will take till 2006 to do that with this crowd) on your own based on responses.

After that -- I agree: two choice will be easier to handle that several.

Bottom line: dacha - I am in if it doesn't cost a fortune.

DJ Biscuit
21-04-2005, 16:05
Yup, as I said we'll see what's the most popular. Take the top two, price them out and see logistically as well which is best.
