if you have free time and nerves made of steel, do help in the Moscow (near Moscow) based dog shelters.

This is where help may never reach and where those who suffers, suffer more - facing evel uncontrolled and starvation and death.

Even a HUMAN being presence, gentle touch and a handfull of food help some of them survive. and even get saved from those establishments by people, who do make difference.

These people don't work in the shelters - on the contrary!, they come and help the dogs. every day. little by little. despite lack of time and own resource.

want to be one of them?

write to me and i will help you find and join the team that helps in the nearest dog shelter.

we also look for temporary homes for the dogs (and cats) saved.
we pay for their temporary stay if one can not receive a small brother free.
not a big amount but combined with the big hearts of foster homemates it helps save their precious lives.

there's a story about a dog lover, who stood in the doorway of a dog shelter asking god in despair:
WHY? this dirt, hunger, cruelty and death... why, GOD, don't you do anything about it? and heard the answer
- I already did, said God. I made you and brought you here...

This shelter BIM has some english speakers - wellcome, volunteers -
Marina is one of the two ladies, who maintain the English section on the BIM shelter's site. see it here

8 929 605 24 21 is Marina's published phone number

Those, who want to volunteer their time and effort this autumn - that's a good time to phone her and talk about it - cuz winter is always tough on the shelter animals

this is the worst time (but for the moment they are murdered) for the dogs in the shelters now. frost kills.

if you think you can come and help feed the dogs
walk the dogs
pet the dogs
bring food to the dogs

you are needed as air to those who need to breathe
DOGS in the tight CAGES

need you

For those who help the caged animals - remember - when they are cold (right now they suffer from cold in the Moscow camps), most calorie rich food is raw meat - beef for animals. No pork. Chicken possible, but lean in fat.

best help in this time of a year - food (beef) and warm blankets, old sweaters etc. - anything to warm the prisoners in their cages, where they have to litter - no escape - and - wet and dirty in their own excrements - easy to get a cold. Any chance to cure in a shelter? barely. fullstop.

help them, if you can.

it's dark and stinky. and the crowd of dogs barking all the time, some are fighting over a piece of dry sweater on a frozen floor or out of despair...

he is motionless in the filthy corner of a dark cage behind the bars. merges with the darkness in the darkest corner near the far side of this place. the coldest side. with a thick layer of ice on it's interior surface. he is still and quiet. no matter what i do. no matter what i say. irrelevant to other dogs playing with me and calling for me and stretching their paws through the bars to try and stop me, so i pet them....he does not hear, he does not see....he is not here....

90 minutes
90 long minutes on top of the nightmare of catch and days and nights in this cage

and 90 minutes later .....

he neared the bars to reach the human

it was unbelievable

he reached my face with his nose through the bars and pushed in the cheek, his nose cold and timid

this was a breakthrough, he switched from the stupor to back to life .....
....he is moaning ever since....calling back his owner...he is impossible to hear - heartbreaking....other dogs quiet, barking, fighting....he moans

are we sure we are human beings?

Hi - I speak only English and have a very unreliable schedule so could not commit to long term or regular volunteering, but if there is a way I can just come in when I'm free, I would like to help - how would I do this?

20-02-2012, 21:51
I as well have an unreliable schedule but as a dog lover, I'd love to volunteer.

you can talk to the English speaking sector of BIM shelter (i reposted their contacts in one of the threads) or let me know your phone numbers in the private mail box, i'll let you know when we can arrange a trip to a shelter i go to.

this black boy moans all the time - he only stops when a human comes to him and touches - talking at a distance does not work. he is desperate to return home. he is gentle, young and innocent. when you move to walk out of his cage - he sits down (as he obviously did at home) by the "door" and looks at you...let's go, take me out of here....

... why - i keep asking myself with no answer....

17-03-2012, 02:30
he got a shelter caugh and could no longer moan - he was taken to a hospital
he was happy to get out of the prison and see people around him
he was the happiest pup in the clinic
he is certainly younger than 12 monts - a happy ill puppy, black and curly with those eyes....
he looks like a little lamb
