It's a Hewlett Packard LazerJet 5L. Bought in 1997. Still works, but is not compatible with Windows 7. I've now bought a new printer. I have all the software on floppy discs (remember those?) - but it is only compatible with older versions of Windows.

What can I do with it- any ideas?

Jan, no need to spend money - just look for updated drivers at ww.hp.com or visit Windows update catalogue at Microsoft website:
http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=HP%20laserjet%205l - it is here, first string for W7 or WS 2008.

Thanks! I've bought a new printer- so the question is really "what can I do with obsolete hardware". I'm kind of reluctant to just throw it away. But I suppose it'll probably come to that.

Fat Andy- thanks for the suggestions- actually I did some searches for a software update for the old printer- but didn't have much luck and so bought a new one. A pity- because the first link you give looks like exactly what 's needed.

Max 77 - erm- thanks. 'The poor' are presumably the people who sift through the local rubbish skip. I'll leave it there and see if any of them are interested.

Make a lamp out of it.

Why not give it to Maria's Children? It's a day center for orphans in central Moscow. I gave them an old computer once. You can find them on the internet.
