hi, does anyone out there know if there is a "Go Rave Girl" store in Moscow? Like the ones in the States?
Your help will be greatly appreciated!

Maybe you have seen Babushkas with "rave girls" plastic bags out and about around Moscow? I know I have and I always have a little chuckle to myself when I see them. Anyway, just beacuse you see the carriers about doesn't mean the stores are here in Moscow. I saw one of my neighbours with a Harvey Nicholls bag the other day (taking out the rubbish) and I know for sure there isn't a Nicks here.

Have you tried going to the store's US website and checking if they have anything in Russia as in, say, locations worldwide?

plastique

Closest thing they have here is "Jennifer" (in Mega 1 and Okhotny Ryad malls)....

If you're a size six stick insect then Moscow clothes shops are your oyster. Just be careful not to get any vomit on your new $70 top from Monsoon (same as the one which costs £15 in the UK) when you're throwing up after all those cream cakes you've just binged on.

Funny thing is, you do see quite a lot of "chunky" women here in Moscow and even though they look like they are going to a wedding at all times, they must buy their clothes somewhere. Or maybe they really do make them out of old Soviet curtains???

M-C

Most people buy their clothes at the market (Luzhniki for ex), where they have cheaper stuff. Less trendy malls always have a couple of shops that cater for larger sizes. It's actually easier here than in the west where really big sizes need to be mail ordered, even C&A's doesn't always have "babouchka" size in stock!

Chiara,

"...you do see quite a lot of "chunky" women here in Moscow..." You do? Where? Everywhere I look I see mostly such slender, beautiful young ladies that the average American girl would simply go home and slit her wrists if she saw them.

Only those who are shallow enough to believe that looks and dress size are more important than personality and morals.

suburbia,

What we're discussing here is beauty, lad. This being your first post (and such a serious one at that!), you are forgiven for not following the theme. :-)

suburbia
13-03-2005, 15:08
I was talking about beauty too - internal beauty. Far more important than external looks.

Dr. Bukakke
13-03-2005, 15:15
I personally prefer internal beauty when surrounded by a good 100+ kilos of woman.

kniga
13-03-2005, 15:58
suburbia,

Ah, but you see, no one here in this thread has been talking about internal beauty, but rather beauty as a whole with the natural emphasis on the eye of the beholder. Perhaps you might start a new thread for those as repressed and horrified as you appear to be at the mere mention of physical pulchritude.

suburbia
13-03-2005, 16:43
I'm far from repressed and horrified, just saddened by the shallowness of those who are only interested in surface beauty. As men, surely the phrase "size doesn't matter" should be familiar......:)

Chiara
13-03-2005, 16:46
Bloody hell- one comment starts all this.

Yes, there are lots of very thin women here in Moscow but not all of them, especially the over-40's which I suppose most of you people on here look straight through. Anyway, these people must buy their clothes from somewhere, that's all I was saying.

As for Russian women being beautiful- that's undeniable but what about when you peel off all the make up? Look into their eyes and what beauty can you see? Most of them are extremely hard-faced.

kniga
13-03-2005, 16:54
suburbia,

Amazing, you make three posts here and assume that all who make innocuous and complimentary comments about women are shallow. And you assume that these same innocuous and complimentary comments about women are the alpha and omega of the posters' outlook towards women. Perhaps you might want to read a bit more widely on this site before making such a, ahem, shallow evaluation of us.

suburbia
13-03-2005, 18:08
I've been reading this site for quite some time......So the number of posts you make determines whether you're right or wrong? Does it determine your size as well?

Being slim or chubby who cares. The main thing is the way a person (woman in our case) presents herself. What is important is the thing called "charm"! If a woman posseses this "feature" good result it guaranteed (by "result" I mean lack of complexes or ability to fight them).

As for the inborn beauty that most of Russian woman possess I don't really know. Can it be summarized that way? It is almost generally accepted that there is a Slaviñ type of appearance which just doffers from so-called Western type (don't forget about Ukrainian, Polish, Slovenian girls). Tastes differ (referring to kniga's citing "beauty is in beholder's eye"). That is why if we talk about men's preferences towards women's appearance everything is subjective.

Regarding aesthetic aspect of the question I personally like the Latin-american type or maybe even "softened" African (being Polish-Ukrainian-Russian myself) as it looks unusual and different.

As for clothing I've noticed there is no such a shop that I'd persoannly prefer as a place where I'd buy all my clothes. I like little shops selling clothing with so-called "element of extravagance" and I have some among my favourites :)

Oh and here's a picture my boyfriend took at Moscow Metro :) Just as an example of how Russian women sometimes dress!

Chiara
13-03-2005, 18:20
What do you mean "sometimes"? You see this kind of outfit all the time and the thing is they aren't even wearing it ironically- they actually think it looks nice and have probably saved up for ages to get the look just right.

Mind you, while there's always some bloke who thinks they look sexy and is willing to spend all his cash on them, I suppose they'll go on dressing like that.

I say "sometimes" meaning not all women in Russia dress like that (and the woman on the picture appears to be Georgian or Armenian as it seems to me).

The question of taste (or lack of it) arises but not the question of national way of dressing.

for example: It has always terrified me when I saw girls wearing denim mini skirts and pink fluffy jackets standing in huge queues near most of the British night clubs even in winter!!! I've always thought that such kind of attire is a guarantee for freezing ones a**se off!

Is it a national British way of dressing somebody tell me? I belive it's not. Again it's the question of TASTE.

Or prove me wrong!

That nice selection can be purchased at Luzhniki market!
It's true that women tend to develop a "baboushka" look rather early, but I'm under the impression that this is changing. Soon not only the younger generation is going to be more attractive but the 35+ group too. Boys, you'll soon have no excuse for not paying attention to us not-quite so-young-anymore women;)

Vicky Pollard is from the West Country.

And as for Northern girls dressing like that- yeah some of them do but I bet they're not knicker-dropping gold diggers who would sh*g anyone- they do have some standards. If they didn't, most of the male expat population of Moscow would be out in the Bigg Market looking for love rather than over here.

Jesus, that's offensive, if not downright bigoted. Talk about latent hostility. Chiara, do us a favor and take the chip off your shoulder and dispense with the Russian female and Male expat stereotypes. We've heard 'em before. Passport hunters, Babushka after 40, etc, etc. If the passive-aggressive asides on poor 'chunky' crass-dressing Russian women make you feel more superior, then maybe you shouldn't be here to begin with. You'll feel a bit more secure at home.

Lucky thing I was out of town stuffing myself with pancakes when this thread appeared....I'm working hard on that fat slovenly expat-wife look....I wouldn't want to disappoint anyone's stereotypes that all Russian women are thin and beautiful and all western women are frumpy lardbutts. Just trying to do my part to make things right.

Wow. Gee. Three days out of Moscow and I saw nary a drop dead gorgeous model out in the provinces. Plenty of well fed country girls though. Real people. With kids! Fancy that. Normal people live in this counry too. The shock! The surprise! Who knew?

And some of these not-exactly-beautiful people drank vodka with me. And danced. No face contriol lurking to stop these misgiuded unbeauties from having fun in spite of their lack of good looks. This must be stopped!

What -the frumpy ex-pat woman green eyed monster club? No, but perhaps we can look into setting one up, though who would rent a room to such ogres in order to meet, who knows?

Actually, I sleep better at night in the bed I have paid for in the flat I pay rent on in the knowledge I have earnt it all myself. This gives me more satisfaction than having a tiny arse or a leopard skin coat ever would. And I guess that's the difference between expat "heiffers" and a lot of Russian women.

To some of you men:
I really don't think you actually realize how offensive you are to the expat women on this site. Not all of us are fat, frumpy, ugly, Lard-Hip Mafia Network:"The Bitter Expat Wife" stereotypes that some of you put us in. Not all Russian women are gold-digging passport hunters either.

Those of you who know me can attest to the fact that i am actually the opposite of how we are labelled. YOu know what? I am comfortable with who I am. I am happy that i can be a tomboy when it comes to sports when most women, Russian and foreign alike, run away squealing like girls. I am a bit tough but I can be soft as well...I don't like to be told by any person, man or woman that I can't do what I want to do , if i am qualified to do it because I am a woman. I am sorry if you guys are threatened by my stregnth and the fact I know what I want and have the balls to speak out when I am not happy instead of being silent. TO be a single woman and come here takes a LOT of really big brass balls, and I got 'em when I need 'em, but I also know that there are times when I need to put them away and be feminine. That's what a lot of people, including the man i intend to make happy for the rest of his life, admire in me.

This rant was meant to those guys who post here without actually getting out to meet any of us...sorry, but the DR. really pi**ed me off. Same with that translator guy.

One of the most frightening comments I heard was from a Hollywood actress (jhiesel knows she is now my arch nemesis...). She said that all the girls she saw here were really fat. Guess that tells you how tiny the gals are in LA.

boscoe
14-03-2005, 00:05
To the women..
Do you know how offensive you are to the Russian women who LIVE HERE!

Chiara
14-03-2005, 00:10
Fair point. Perhaps likening some Russian women to anorexic crack-whores was a bit harsh. Good job they have you to stick up for them and protect their honour, Boscoe...

14-03-2005, 00:36
Ok, but we live here too, and somehow it seems ok for you guys to insult us and we have to roll over and take it...
"what embassy compound do you live in" really? I think Peng was extremely complimentary to the Russian women.

boscoe
14-03-2005, 00:45
OK so some guy implies that there are few fat women here and you lot call Russian girls anorexic crack-whores…. Hmmmm can someone explain the logic here?

And what part of “Three days out of Moscow and I saw nary a drop dead gorgeous model out in the provinces. Plenty of well fed country girls though.” Is particularly complimentary – if I referred to my sister as ‘well fed’ with her in ear shot I’d be walking with a limp for a month!

It’s just SO SAD… and no it’s not the skirt that makes you look fat… It’s the three cakes and the packet of biscuits you’ve just eaten!

plastique
14-03-2005, 00:48
I didn't say anything deragatory at all toward anyone. Ask Mr. Marine how much I eat...once a day if that. and it's not "that some guy implies there area few fat women here." That's how you guys phrase it when you compare us. we are fatty loudmouth opinionated b*tches.

and the correct quote should be:

honey do these jeans make my a** look fat?

no dear. Your a** makes those jeans look really, really small.

Chiara
14-03-2005, 00:59
It was me who mentioned anorexic crack whores, but only in backlash to being called a lard-arse by some bloke on here and I didn't say that's what Russian women looked like, merely that I wouldn't want to. Don't blame it on Plastique!

Its the age old argument, isn't it? There are women of all shapes and sizes in Moscow but most expat men only see the thin, (supposedly) attractive ones. Doesn't mean the others don't exist you know, just because you don't want to get their knickers off.

I've been here for four years now and am immune the glares I get which range from the surprised to the disgusted when I leave the house wearing jeans, trainers and no make up to go to the supermarket. Funnily enough though, you only seem to get this kind of reaction from Russian women and some expat men. I have never had any bother attracting Russian men, even if I don't really want to.

Braders

I see we're still on thread.

I see a lot of insecurity in this thread, it's true there are expats in Moscow who wouldn't look once at an expat woman whilst over here, there are also expats who socialise and enjoy the company of expat women.

I posted the Vicky Pollard image because i hang around with many friends in Manchester who look just like her/him? ;), i've never thought twice about it, what annoys me is the way most of you expat women (who in my eyes are insecure) take every opportunity to belittle the Russian Women and expat Men over here, why not just get on with your own life and sod them?

I am not particulary fond of Russian Men who drive $150K motors and have Million Dollar apartments which they probably acquired illegally, but i don't spend more than a fleeting Second envying them.

In short, focus on yourself and not others.

My Tuppence worth.

Chiara
14-03-2005, 09:10
We do get on with out own lives- we certainly don't sit on here all day waiting for any opportunity to slag off Russian women and Expat men on here. Admittedly, you are easy targets. I won't bang on about expat men only coming out here to find a woman because they couldn't do so in their own country- that's almost as tired an argument as expat women all being lardarses.

I couldn't be less insecure about my appearance or life in general. As I said before, I personally value my independance a lot more than Russian women seem to -I don't actually need a bloke to be financially secure and I don't see my relationship as a business agreement. I don't see marriage as the ultimate aim in life, which Russian women undoubtedly still do -seems they can't breathe right unless they're married and settled.

As it goes, expat women must have something going for them coz the vast majority of them out here aren't single. Most are in really great, fulfilling relationships, as far as I can see.

Sorry, Plastique, but that was intended tongue-in-cheek after a shocker of a self-serving comment from Chiara saying that, surprise-surprise, there ARE "chunky" women here. "Noooo !" Yes, Quite a lot of them, it turns out, and they're all over 40 so we don't notice them. Hello, stereotype !

The only ones perpetuating any stereotypes here are the expatriate women themselves. You don't see these forums' males members putting expatriate females down. The expatriate females put themselves down with snide remarks borne out of envy or something. Or maybe there are a lot of insults on these boards, and I missed them (so, point them out), but all the recent discussions I've been privvy to have been started by women.

As you said, Plastique, you know most of the people here, and I'm sure you wouldn't associate with them if you felt they were chauvinistic pigs against US or UK women.

She looks like one of those rap guys girlfriends
Who understands those rap guys

I mean her butt
It's just so big
I can't believe it's so round
It's just out there
I mean, it's gross
Look, she's just so black

I like big butts and I can not lie
You other brothers can't deny
That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waste
And a round thing in your face
You get sprung
Wanna pull up front
Cuz you notice that butt was stuffed
Deep in the jeans she's wearing
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh, baby I wanna get with ya
And take your picture
My homeboys tried to warn me
But with that butt you got
Me so horny
Ooh, rub all of that smooth skin
You say you wanna get in my Benz
Well use me, use me cuz you ain't that average groupy

I've seen them dancin'
The hell with romancin'
She sweat, wet, got it goin' like a turbo 'Vette

I'm tired of magazines
saying flat butt's the only thing
Take the average black man and ask him that
She gotta pack much back, so

Fellas (yeah), fellas (yeah)
Has your girlfriend got the butt (hell yeah)
Well shake it, shake it, shake it, shake it, shake that healthy butt
Baby got back

(LA face with Oakland booty)

I like'em round and big
And when I'm throwin' a gig
I just can't help myself
I'm actin like an animal

I wanna get you home
And ugh, double ugh, ugh
I ain't talkin' bout Playboy
Cuz silicone parts were made for toys
I wannem real thick and juicy
So find that juicy double
Mixalot's in trouble
Beggin' for a piece of that bubble
So I'm lookin' at rock videos
Watchin' these bimbos walkin' like hoes
You can have them bimbos
I'll keep my women like Flo Jo
A word to the thick soul sistas
I wanna get with ya
I won't cus or hit ya
But I gotta be straight when I say I wanna ****
Til the break of dawn
Baby, I got it goin on
A lot of pimps won't like this song
Cuz them punks like to hit it and quit it
But I'd rather stay and play
Cuz I'm long and I'm strong
And I'm down to get the friction on

So ladies (yeah), ladies (yeah)
If you wanna role in my Mercedes (yeah)
Then turn around
Stick it out
Even white boys got to shout
Baby got back

(LA face with the Oakland booty)

Yeah baby
When it comes to females
Cosmo and got nothin to do with my selection
36-24-36
Only if she's 5'3"

So your girlfriend rolls a Honda
Playin' workout tapes by Fonda
But Fonda ain't got a motor in the back of her Honda
My anaconda don't want none unless you've got buns hon
You can do side bends or sit-ups, but please don't lose that butt
Some brothers wanna play that hard role
and tell you that the butt need to go
So they toss it and leave it
And I pull up quick to retrieve it
So Cosmo says you're fat
Well I ain't down with that
Cuz your waste is small and your curves are kickin'
And I'm thinkin' bout stickin'
To the beanpole dames in the magazines
You ain't it Miss Thang
Give me a sista I can't resist her
Red beans and rice didn't miss her
Some knucklehead tried to dis
Cuz his girls were on my list
He had game but he chose to hit 'em
And pulled up quick to get with 'em
So ladies if the butt is round
And you wanna triple X throw down
Dial 1-900-mixalot and kick them nasty thoughts
Baby got back

Ok...Just to make my point clear...those of you who know me, I really hope you aren't putting me into these categories. I love Ksish, sunstorm, ledka and most of the other girls here. I have many russian girlfriends from school and see how many of them work their butts off to get to where they are. I know many of you guys and you are right Hal. I wouldn't hang out with you if i thought you were all jerks...I find you all, for the most part, successful businessman who have come here to work first and foremost. THere is no denying that this city is like college...and frat mentality happens, but you all, save for a few of you, are really good guys....ANd I don't really see any of the expat women who fit the sterotype either, not the ones I know personally..I see them as very stong women who are not ruled by insecuritites but who know how and feel comfortable speaking their minds. But really...if i fit the stereotype you guys have of the expat female then someone have the respect for me to tell me.

I agree, stereotypes are dangerous and in these cases uncalled for.

However, I do have one question, since when did having sex become illegal?

plastique :inlove: you know you never fit in that stereotype :D I for one would definitely tell you if you did :p

Actually my opinion is that there are much less normal ppl among both expats and Russians - normal ppl are just always in minority :agree:

There are many nice expatriate gurls lke you and Sheepy for example, however there are plenty of that nasty b*tches who will smile at your face and slag you as soon as you turn your head away ;) At the same time there are plenty of good, nice Russian girls but there are awlays some wh**s around :D

I donnoooo I don't care, frankly speaking :) I just stick to the ppl who I like and enjoy and who feel the same way about me :agree: as for the rest I wouldn't even honor them with offering to go an kiss my ar*e ;)

I meant that it seems to me that this idea that Moscow is some big playground and going out and getting laid is some sort of indication that expat men especially are using it as such and are therefore making a statement against expat women is bunkum.
People go out to get laid everywhere and I can tell you that such so called promiscuous behaviour can be witnessed in clubs and pubs throughout Britain, for example, without it having to have some more global sinister agenda.
People like sex, and will continue to do so. Wherever people gather, drink and generally enjoy themselves it is highly likely that casual sex will be the result, and so what?
That however is not the reason people come here, they come because of job offers, or their companies move them and so on, if they then find that shock horror Moscow has a nightlife there is no law saying that they cannot use their leisure time to ermm relax! ;)

However :D there ARE still some people that can't get laid at there home country so they start travelling to get more lucky at some other place! :p

and there are laws in Moscow on anything! sure there should be some on if you can or cant "relax" at some point! Otherwise police wouldn't have disturbed when me and my ex.......:shame:.....whatever! :p

I just want to know when I'm supposed to slit my wrists. Is it too late? Should I wait for a special holiday? Womens Day perhaps?
Is there a special protocoll for this sacrifice? Are witnesses required, or may one do this in the privacy of their own home?

How did this thread end up as expat women defending themselves and their views? Both sides have slagged each other off something rotten yet we don't pick up on that and ask every bloke on here to justify every nasty word they have written about us. And as for the Russian women, I think they can damn well defend themselves without the expat knights in shining armour coming along on their white nags.

This threads warming up quite nicely!

Plastique, non of my comments were aimed at you or anyone in particular, Expat women do eye slender looking Russian women up and more than often than not make a derogative comment about what she's wearing, (What does SHE look like!) the hussy, Russian women eye each other up and do the same, infact they're better at it! ;)

Like DJB said it's the same the world over concerning Men and Women.

On behalf on my expat wife, I would just like to say, she is here because I am here. I am here for career reasons, and to experience the culture. Yes there are some pretty women in Moscow, as there are in all parts of the world, but this is equally balanced with average and ugly people.

Why one nationality should think another is jealous of them just because of their supposed looks defeats me!

All I know is that there is no one in this city to equal my wife (and she is not Russian).

i am so tired of being cast as a fat, bitter expat b&*tch. i am not. yes of course i'm jealous of all the gorgeous 18 year old russians in their painted on jeans and impossibly high heels. sure i wish i looked like that no less could walk in shoes like that.

maybe it would help if all the men i know didn't constantly remind me of how fat my kind is and how gorgeous the russians are. doesn't do much for one's ability to have self esteem seperate from body image when one is constantly aware of being judged soley on that!

and all the men you don't know...having a pint with someone, and being subjected to a lecture on the many many advantages of Russian women.

and before anyone picks this up and runs with it: I am not criticizing Russian women. if anything, I'm criticizing the men who are prepared to be rude, without reason, to women they've only just met, simply because those women are expats. and, by default it seems, there must be something wrong with a woman if she's chosen to live here.

I didn't call anyone an anorexic crack whore- all I said was that I would rather NOT look like one. And do you realise how offensive you're being to many of the expat guys wives and girlfirends who are also expats themselves?

Note how it is insensitivity towards MEN, which is not tolerated on here, rather than towards women themselves. Even a negative comment about Russian women is seen on here as a slight against expat MEN.

Chiara's joke was in poor taste but look at the nastiness it brought to the surface. That is telling. Something is very wrong here.

I for one really like the Russians I know. Especially the women who I find to be cultured, highly educated, caring, giving people.

I think the fundamental problem here is a case of cultural differences. In America, we do not openly (yes, I said OPENLY) comment on figure flaws or umm...achievements. It is not acceptable to judge someone on how they look. It is certainly not acceptable to hire someone based on this (just read some of the ads that have been placed on this site and you'll know what I'm getting at ...seeking secretary 26 or younger, slavic appearance...) I think many people here feel pressured to look a certain way. I feel very out of place in my modest business suits and less than sexy every day wear. I guess my point is that while men seem to like the general accepted women must be sex goddesses all day and men can look slovenly idea, women, especially those who are not used to this, find it appaling to be judged by this standard. I bet many Russian women, even the super gorgeous ones do too.

Shara actually here we also do not comment on somebody's looks, figure etc (at the exception of complements of course) as first of all it is not polite and just bad manners.

As for the ads - there are just few on this site however if you take any professional HR newspaper I can bet my head you'd never see anything like that, at least not in the ones that deserve attention. As for the yellow press or doubtful sites - it is like that everywhere.

If you feel out of place though I think you should generate more confidence in yourself and it is just in your head. Most often ppl see things different from how others see us and most likely ppl do not care bout your suit, however if you are not happy with it just get yourself a new one ;)

I see it completely the other way I’m afraid, you and yours (and you know what I’m talking about… Chiara expect a PM I’m sure you’ve made it in) are CONSTANTLY having a go at the Russian girls… I’m a married man got married in the UK and am here with my expat wife (who I love to bits), had I come here as a single man would I have gone out with a Russian girl… Hell yes, I more than likely would have gone out with an Italian girl had I lived in Italy…

You need to get over it – Russian girls are in general VERY good looking, alware makeup and make the most of what they’ve got… if that bothers you then that’s YOUR problem… deal with it!

I think you are right it is a cultural difference… but it’s THEIR culture… will you change it…NO

I agree with you My wife doesn’t wear makeup all the time and wears ‘slobby clothes’ to go the store, I don’t care neither does she and I couldn’t give a s*it about what others think… so why should you?

Note how it is insensitivity towards MEN, which is not tolerated on here, rather than towards women themselves. Even a negative comment about Russian women is seen on here as a slight against expat MEN.

Of course it is. Most of the expat men here are with Russian women and or wives, perfectly normal non-crack-whore, conservatively dressed ones. In a country where 99% of the women are Russian, it's not odd and doesn't make you a loser that can't get a sh*g at home. There's a 99% chance your girlfriend/wife will be Russian.

Put it this way, if you're husband/boyfriend/Significant Other was from a separate ethnic/religous group and you read snide stereotype comments about him from other men, would you shout out ?

Look, whatever that comment was, it wasn't a jibe at size six Russian women themselves. There have been tons of comments aimed at expat women on here and not every single obe is disected down to its bare bones- if anything there simply wouldn't be time. Anyway, I stand by what I said- there's no woman on earth who could eat a balanced diet and still fit into some of those clothes, Russian or otherwise.

Chiara, the other half of your insinuation is that the male expats that are with them were there because the Russian women "don't have any standards because if they did "most of the male expat population of Moscow would be out in the Bigg Market looking for love rather than over here." or that we don't notice women over 40.

You've already turned it into not only slights against the Russian women, but the men they're with. Being pegged as having come over here for a few sh*gs is something I think the majority of men on this board would object to.

Chiara, I don't recall anyone in this thread calling you fat or otherwise, except you. I say this just to prove my above point that the only people (at least on thsee boards) perpetuating any stereotypes are the expat women themselve. I did say most, not all, as you admit yourself. So count yourself as one of those not included in the "most" and relax. I would still say that a fair few expat men, if not actually most then a decent proportion of them, found women in the first place here exactly because they are expats with a bit of cash to flash around.

Well, I'm honored not to be among them, even if I am still a 'pompous [expletive]', but I disagree with the rest of your post. 'Most' of the people I know here (and I think it's rather representative) are usually pretty skint and found women of the same ilk and manner they would have at home, and not because of mountains of money. To insinuate otherwise reeks of latent envy.

Given the amount of angst expressed here, it's not unfair to say it's a hot topic, and one you perhaps could have approached more diplomatically and spurred interesting discussion on (even if it is a bit of a trite topic) without the insinuation.

I'm sorry, Chiara, I don't know you, what you do, how you look or how you dress, but the way you phrased things makes you look like you have a hidden agenda and axe to grind. Others apparently agree. Are there any truly skint expats here? Even a humble English teacher is on a salary which a lot of Russians would consider a good wedge.

Whenever I go back home with my boyfriend, who has dark skin, everyone thinks he is some holiday romance love rat I met on holiday in Turkey or something. As it happens, I don't. I know exactly what teachers earn. I know a fair few Muscovites earn a lot more than this, but they don't have foreign passports to match the flash salary. As an all round package, any foreigner is better than pretty much all Russian men in terms of opportunities and long-term lifestyle they can offer a Russian woman, and I don't blame them for going for it big style.

Yes, it offended all men who have Russian wives and girlfirens (not the actual women themselves but the MEN, you see) and it also offended even those men who don't have Russian wives. I think you also managed to seriously piss off the Pope, Barbara Bush and Sir Elton John with your flippant comments.

Where? Maybe I missed something, but the nastiest comments made on this site about expat women are made by....EXPAT WOMEN. Pengwn, step right up....

I have problems with the bitterness. I'm not going to stand up and defend all Russian women because there are some that fit your stereotypes. But I think that the most venemous attacks, the ones most poorly glossed over (usually later) by attempts at humor, are coming from some of the expat women on this site. It's been like this for over a year.

Yes, my wife is Russian. Yes, she can stand up for myself (I try to ignore this idiocy). No, she doesn't give the slightest **** about what any of you think. But I'm still sick of getting pegged as one of "those guys" with one of "those wives."

I'm puzzled about what attacks you mean. AFAIK, I don't go around bad-mouthing Russian women in general. Yes, I talk about expat men who will instantly tell you about the glories of Russian women compared to expat women. Maybe I should take boscoe's advice, and be more careful about who I go for beer with.

Sure, these men piss me off. But I'm don't go around saying that all expat men are like that. So I don't see why expat women should get tarred with the jealous/bitch/bitter/fat (delete as appropriate) brush by the men, which is what happens far more often than is comfortable.

We can only go by what some of the expat women post here… if the cap fits...may be it’s not just the expat men you ‘associate’ with that you should choose more carefully…

:D

I personally believe that it's not fair that some men look like Johnny Depp and I look like a fat version of the guy from the Committments film, it's not fair, who do they think they are?

Some of these men can afford good clothes and look great in them while I look ridicilous, what should I do?

Oh, wait, I know, grow up, get over it.

Yes.

So enjoying life and being grown up are mutually exclusive? You must be the life and soul of the preverbial.

Myopic posts should not become you.

Have you met anyone? How do you find the site? Does it really help to post your pic?

Hope its not too personal question.

And why does your b******s and all your other insults get to stay in yet my post (perhaps quite rightly, it was written o the heat of the moment) get deleted?

Unlike Chiara I have been within the rules with all my postings on this thread.. May I draw your attention to the following…

>>>FORUM RULES - Please Read Before Posting<<<

Absolutely NO personal attacks will be tolerated, no exceptions!

This forum has a policy of tolerance and inclusion. Prejudicial language and behavior is absolutely forbidden and may result in loss of posting privileges.

If you replaced ‘black’ for ‘russian’ in more than a few of Chiara’s posts the whole forum would be SCREAMING for her to be banned and justifiably… can you explain the difference?

So going to raves/clubs etc and enjoying life is somehow wrong?

I also must add that the places I go to do not allow underage, let alone 14 year old in, and not only that if they did I would not go.

I see nothing wrong in going out. What kind of music do you listen to? Let's assasinate your character the same way, god forbid it's not metal or rock, oh wait that would be childish wouldn't it?

And rest of us who were teenagers when raves were popular.

As for your post, Boscoe- why not change the word "Chiara" for black or "Expat women" also- then see if we get the same result - I am pretty sure we will.
