The volcano has caused Mr. Elk to be stuck in Madrid, and I was discussing with a friend the idea of just driving down there and getting him (except from here it is 15+ hours one way by car).

Which reminded me of one of my favorite short stories ever.

And what do you know? It's on the Interwebz.

I loved this so much when I first read it (in a book I found in a house we rented in Spain one year for a vacation) that I took the book.

I will warn you: possibly Not Safe for Work as the author uses the F-word.

Hope that your husband will take a train then.

We (In russia) expect "the cloud" in two days, btw (central part of Russia).

Yeah, Alexei Sayle, one of Britain's best and most under-rated humorists :) Born in Liverpool, but with roots in the E European jewish refugee world, from Lithuania. One of my favourite "Lexy" jokes:

"Scientists have discovered that heredity plays a greater part in mortality figures than previously suspected. You have a 40% chance of dying from the same thing that killed your grandparents. So provided I keep away from hordes of marauding cossacks, I'm practically immortal!"

A great story with a clever ending - (a Mercedes speeding down the Pont de l'Alma underpass. That reminds me of something...)
Thanks for that.

Good story, but I can't say that I wish I had written it - especially the part about being ****ed by a gay Chinese guy.
