Okay, new week, new victim.

Let me start off by saying Matt24 is sort of a stealth member of Expat: he flies below the radar, popping up now and then to post comments that usually make me snort my coffee across my keyboard. I'm hoping this spotlight gives you all a chance to enjoy his wit.

So: a few questions.

WHAT is you name?
WHAT is your quest?
WHAT is your favorite color?

Seriously, however, . . .

1. Is there some significance to the "24" in your user name? Is it your age? Or are you some sort of Irish Jack Bauer?

2. I really liked the question I got about weird things I might have eaten. What is the strangest thing you have ever tasted?

3. And the obvious question: what brings you to Moscow?

4. Have YOU ever been arrested?

5. Did you remember to change your clocks?

6. I have to confess: I don't recognize your avatar. Who is that?

I have to admit that it was vanity that led me to accept MissAnnElk's invitation, she just said the nicest things in her PM , and who can ignore the request of a Goddess, but Jeez this is a ridiculously hard intro to live up to, fear ye not your keyboards are safe, a real member will be along shortly...

. Is there some significance to the "24" in your user name? Is it your age? Or are you some sort of Irish Jack Bauer?
I wish it was my age, but it's closer to the Jack Bauer thing, in a taller, fatter, uglier, slightly more Jewish, hugely more cowardly sort of way - 24 has been my lucky number since I was 3 and my Grandfather declared I could count for being able to recite all the numbers in order from 1 to 24, it took me another decade to discover that there were numbers bigger than 24, by which time my reputation as a child prodigy was well and truly blown.

2. I really liked the question I got about weird things I might have eaten. What is the strangest thing you have ever tasted?
I once bit a piece out of a chap's ear, and I'm not convinced I didn't swallow it...

3. And the obvious question: what brings you to Moscow?
Short term industrial demilitarization contract in 1996 bought me here, and my mother in law's refusal to die keeps us here.

4. Have YOU ever been arrested?
Yes, but never convicted

5. Did you remember to change your clocks?
Yes, eventually -well I have now.

6. I have to confess: I don't recognize your avatar. Who is that?

Perfectly sound, thanks very much, my office is right down town very close to Lubyanka, we've been watching the clean up operation all morning, it's got to be said the emergency services have been absolutely magnificent - it's a bad way to find out but the cops, the ambulance guys and the emergency situations people are all being very very kind they're being very well organized and the absence of panic is stunning - well done Moscow!

pretty much I'm a fan of Mourinho, I was a Chelsea fan from habit and location, (for a long time I lived just off the Fulham Palace road) long before the special one came (and went) he's an incredibly charming and effective communicator, comes across as very generous and caring man - but at the same time absolutely hard as nails when it comes to winning - he chatted my wife up at a charity do once, and I'm still boasting about it, total class act.

If Mr Abramovich does, as is rumored, read 'expat.ru' anytime you're ready with your cheque book we'll have Jose back.

You're going to have to tell us more about that. Now I'm wondering if you aren't really Mike Tyson.

Minor communications breakdown during a game of rugby, I got taken out at the neck by of all people the opposition's hooker - (a trainee Vicar who I'd been to school with / and about whose sister and her underwear I had made mention) - anyway tackle left me flat on my back with a dislocated shoulder, and my assailant lying on top of me having seven shades kicked out of him, unable to make much of an impact on the general melee, (left arm not working, right arm under 18 stone of vicar), and in imminent danger of suffocation - I decided to draw attention to my plight by nibbling on his ear at exactly the same time as he tried a reverse head butt, I got an awful lot more ear than I had planned and he got 7 stitches and a permanently lopsided head

What do you like doing after yur work?

Matt24

What do you like doing after yur work?

the big job relates to my being a partner in a product design consultancy, my partners are based in San Francisco and New York, which means the working day kicks off quite late, what I like doing before work is playing with the baby, he's a stunning little chap and partys hard, (this is the impact of working with Americans, I've made a verb out of a noun) - after work it's a joy to do number 1 son's homework, he's away at school in the UK so timing is great, he is rapidly getting cleverer than me so I need to grab this opportunity to impress. I like 'Eastenders' I don't watch any other TV but lose the will to live if I'm not up to date with the square.

is your ideal Saturday or Sunday?

My ideal saturday starts on Friday, I'll fly to London, grab a curry with whoever is in town, collect son on Saturday morning, spend a good few hours shouting at the football, fortunately number 1 son is a Chelsea fan, and then off to Newport street for Chinese food - I'll fly back to Moscow Sunday lunchtime

If we're in Moscow, we often have people round for lunch/dinner, IMHO i can cook reasonably well, I like the whole process of going to the markets, having a few beers, buying bits and pieces of animal and vegetable I've never tried before and experimenting - we are lucky that so far I haven't poisoned anybody and we get lots of invites out.

Do you have favourite park/place in Moscow? I like Novodevetche monastry, walking round the pond and looking at the dogs, our baby is very keen on dogs - I also like walking around inside the monastry walls, the ladies who work in there try and be all distant and mystical, but deep down they are fabulously friendly and can be everso funny.

Do you give money to charity ?if yes which one? I give money to the Katin project in Uganda; I have a project to build breast cancer screening facilities in Kenya, and I'm building wells in dafor - any body with an abundance of cash on this forum, I can throw you the links.

your favourite russian beer? Samco from Penza

Spurs I don't have a problem with, I think it would be a terrible waste of his talents but it ain't gonna happen.....I'd feel a tremendous sense of betrayal if he went to Liverpool however.

Why?

Try and imagine, if Jose joins Liverpool and wins them their first league for 2 decades...This is all for Jose's ego..he's the special one..

After Inter where do you see Jose going?

I think he's going to go to Man City - I can't see Mancini surviving the summer tour, I'd love to see S1 back at the Bridge, but I don't think he has sufficient humility, a rare weakness, to make the buy back doable, i.e. painless, for Ambramovich. With regard to Liverpool, I got so fed up listening to all that 'You can't buy History' thang that I'm biased, however trying to view as an impartial outsider I think LFC is in a very strange and dark place at the moment, fan power, board power, player power and manager are all out of balance, if Jose went there a huge amount of his energy would be wasted on stuff he's not good at or believes in, (hence the sense of betrayal) - The premierships won with Chelsea were the result of a brilliant balance between Manager and team, we the fans were simply spectators and we loved it - the problems arose because he wanted Kenyon et al to be spectators, (with cheque books) too...I'd like to see him do something magical with Real, or a dream billionaire buying West Ham / Pompey just to see what might happen.

I think the sooner Liverpool hire Sparkie Hughes the better.

I remember 8-tracks. In college I had an all-in-one machine: turntable, cassette desk, AND an 8-track player. I had a Linda Ronstadt album and something else . . . maybe Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon . . . on 8-track.

What can you do in Penza?

I haven't been for a few years but from what I remember there's a very good indoor / outdoor restaurant, little wooden booths around some fountains that does great soup, a pyramid shaped night-club with a glamourous restaurant where all the food came pyramid shaped and great beer - very advanced brewing technology. There didn't used to be a daily direct flight to Moscow -which meant that I could blag at least one way trips on the train, away from the hustle and bustle of working for a day, knee deep in Samco beer and Pyramid shaped sandwiches.

Work wise not much going, mainly decontamination of defunct industrial plant.

What, the "avatar" photo? Our Mirka took that at the Stramash last September. I was VERY jetlagged, but look! I scored a BIG glass of wine!

Once, on the Ring Line, a GIANT Great Dane-type Metro dog laid his head on my feet. I'm still sad I didn't just alter my plans and take him home (can you imagine? with two cats?).

Yes, I was a blond a la Sting, all greased up and spiky with black roots, for my 5th year at school, then in the 6th year I had a navy blue buzzcock - in 1995, I went to the RWC in South Africa and we all had our hair permed and dyed green.

Are you a fan of the Royal Family?

No, not really - I think there's too many of them and they are way to expensive, given the opportunity I would vote that we call it a day after The Queen, I think that Chuck and Andy and Eddie should never ever get the keys to the kingdom, and if someone has to fill in between the incumbent and Wills, the best option would be Princess Anne - she is barking mad posh but to my mid decent.

Yeah we get everywhere, I'm a Jew because my Mother is a Jew, I'm all Mitzvahed up, including the genital mutilation but as yet I have steered clear of the compulsory vasectomy, (I'm thankful to Bels for pointing out that long forgotten tradition in an earlier post), my Father is a devout catholic, I am not a massively into organized religion sort of person, maybe that's the absence of the vasectomy?- I have a tattoo out of memory of my grandfather who was another tattooed Jew from a different time - I think all religions that pay any attention to the old testament have some issues with tattoos and bodily markings, but certainly in the rule book, and my liberal interpretation of it, a tattoo is not a biggie, along with cutting your locks and not wearing a hat in public, I don't think the big fellow is going to hold it against me if I've been a good person. Ami James is a Jew and he's about 90% Tattoo

My father's family were Jews, but, as I like to say, they circumcised him and then dropped the topic. They were all horrified to be associated with being Jewish. I actually met a cousin who, over the course of dinner, talked about "Jewing" someone down on a price (ie. bargaining).

I was all . . . "Your last name is ROSENTHAL!!!"

That said, I like a bagel, but I have no interest in being one of God's Chosen People.

I also have a tattoo.

I do not have a vasectomy.

But I did have my tubes tied.
