Well, after trying to do some dieting for a week (my body desperately needed it!) I felt today my blood sugar level sinking to a dangerously low level - at least I imagined this. So, in order to save my life, I said "what the heck", and just finished a big can of PRINGLES "Sour Cream and Onion", three "sardelki" and a bottle of Starij Melnik. After a big belch I feel much better now, and the fear for my life is also gone!

How do you all handle such a crisis situation?

Actually, I am not on "a religious diet" 9if I understand you correctly), I think that people should understand why they follow it, just to be on an diet during fast period is not correct.

But after Maslenitsa (and all these X-mas, NY celebration) it is good to loose some weight (Fat eaten) indeed.

So I started my diet 10 days ago and the result is 2 kg.

In 2 days probably, i will eat 2 large picies of cheese cake, exactly, to celebrate these 2 kilos!

I think that the origins of masleniza (or "lent", or "Fastenzeit") are not religious at all! Nowhere in the Bible is it writen that you should keep such a diet. I think ist has more to do do with gett ing rid of substances which your body, during a long winter, has collected by living on probably rather unhealthy food. Dried and preserved stuff has probably less vitamins than fresh food. Question is, whether in our days with refrigeration and "around-the-world-shipping" of fresh produce lent still makes sense?

Any nutritional specialists out there who could answer this?

I meant the period after Masletitsa untill the Easter! It is connected with the religion tradition

:)

And Masletitsa itslef has connection with pagans period of history (in Russia), when after winter they celebrated the Yarilo coming back (Yarilo is an ancient divinity equal to The Sun). And the shape of pan cake is alike the sun.

Even the curch could not get rid off the celebraion.

Try to lead a constantly healthy life style. I mean, there are dishes that are userful for your health and there are some of them that are not hermful but if you will continue eating them, your health will be in danger.

That is, of course, a great idea and a smart thing to do. But my experience is that "healthy" food just tastes boring. Don't get me wrong, I do like veggies and fruit; but then some Mexican food with a couple of beers is simply irresistable ...
