Are there any playgroups/pre-schools in Moscow that teach foreign children Russian? Or are there any specialised teachers who offer private/small group Russian lessons to children?

Thanks.

My subjective opinion (based on observations of children in foreign environment): your kid does not need a teacher - he needs to mingle with local kids.

It depends on the child's age, of course, but normally daily contact (even short) with nanny and/or driver gets the kids going great. Formal lessons are usually not that effective with kids AND NOT FUN!

I agree with you, Bolex - ideally we'd like him to mingle with local children, but most are now back at school. The other alternative is for him to go to school as well, but his Russian isn't as good as a local, which is why we're looking for a school teaching in Russian for foreigners.

Children do learn best from their own age group, not just from adults, Ronymo. He does speak a little Russian when we go out - to the driver, etc - but most schools are fun and create a better learning atmosphere for young children, whilst they're painting, playing, etc.

I just came across this pre-school: Center for Personality Development. Tel. 760-8161, 931-2769, 443-2830. They have several locations. The teachers are all Russian. $400 per month. I haven't visited them yet.
I am looking for a school for my 3 year-old who is bilingual but speaks more Russian than English.

Just thought I would resurrect this thread. I just went to visit a Russian Montessori school yesterday with my son. The teachers all speak English, but the classes are conducted completely in Russian. Now my son has no Russian background (he is half British/half American, but I was most impressed with the place and I feel it would benefit him greatly. There number is 108-2088, they are located near Metro Arbat. Phone for specific directions, they are most helpful and will set up almost anytime for you to go and visit the school.
