Hi,
What are the best options for having decent medical care in Moscow - without going to pricey EMC etc? I am interested in both clinics for non-emergency visits and hospitals for emergency visits. For both adults and infants.

At the moment I would guess the Diplomatic Clinic/Hospital but there must be alternatives.

Big Thanks!

You forgot to mention your degree of Russian fluency.

If you speak Russian, OAO Meditsina (www.medicina.ru) is fine (you can purchase insurance).

What about the American Medical Center. Is this place a rip off? I need good coverage for English speaking family only.

AMC therapists hardly speak English:))) Though the reception can handle some problems. Anyway, they are willing to help.

Second that.

A couple of years ago, a non-Russian speaking friend ended up there for an emergency operation.

Over 7 days, she met an English speaker once. We asked to be informed when the doctor would be coming by, so there would be someone there to interpret. Of course, we were never contacted.

The care seemed to be fine, but not being able to communicate was a big stress for someone who had just been through a major operation.

Unfortunately from lots of experience at the AMC over the past two years(not by choice) you will have no language issues there, but you certainly pay for it, probably cheaper to employ a translaor and head off to a decent Russian facility but in saying that (not by choice) my experience with them, I am not quite sure "decent" enters into it.

Ok, I've called the American Clinic, which is down the street from there. They've only been around for 2.5 years or so. They claim all their doctors are American certified (whatever that means) and they have almost complete English speaking staff.
