Is "not too expensive" below 100 EUR or below 500 EUR/night? ;)

Look at Volzhskaya Zhemchuzhina (Volga Pearl) or Ring Premier Hotel.

Ring Premier on Svaboda Ulitza is the only really first class hotel in Yaroslavl.

Better to find private small house out of the city, if you want to be closer tothe nature, and it's cheap

I'm currently staying in a rather new place mini hotel "Zvezdnyi", it's near the football stadium. It's not the Ring premier hotel, but for half the price one cann't expect that. But it's absolutely advisable.
See there website yarstars.ru, it's even in english. The girls at the desk are very helpful and give better info about where to go then they do in the Ring.
I didn't find it yet in all-hotels.ru.
