First question: Do IPODS work in Russia? Do they need to be reprogramed or something before you can download tunes onto them in Russia?

Second question: What would be a typical price for a blackberry (Samsung, Nokia, et al) at Garbushka or similar in Moscow?

I need to buy some gifts before traveling from the US to Russia and answers to these questions would help.

Also, for Russians, is there anything from America that Russians want that you can't buy in Russia? Thanks:fridaysign:

Hi Jack,
You're asking strange questions... How music player can be working in one country and don't work in another??? According to local laws' prescriptions?:)
There is a lot of iPods hanging on and sticking out of people at metro and in streets of Moscow and othe cities.

I think only the question can (maybe! I don't know because have an allergy for devices designed by Apple) appear with access via Internet to iTunes online store from within Russia but it's not an issue - you can find a lot of proxies in US or EU as same as software anonymizers/masqueraders to hide your ass.
But even if not - nobody abandoned torrents and our favourite pirates at Gorbushka, Savela, near-metro kiosks etc. yet. They even accept orders for customized collections (NBD service ;)).

Maybe under iPods you've mentioned another ugly children of Apple - iPhones? If yes, all issues are being solved by local hacking guys at same Gorbushka, Savela etc. for 10 min and 20 "dirty green papers"(C). All who wanted to buy these devices already bought them smuggled from US and after signing official contracts with Apple Beeline/Megafon/MTS are still sitting with huge heap of them here... US price should be still lower but... I see no commercial sense to pull them here...

typical price for a blackberry (Samsung, Nokia, et al) at Garbushka or similar in Moscow? - eh... I don't know about Blackberry as at least MTS and Beeline offer them to corporate clients mostly and you need to buy services with contract... You can find operators pricing here:
BlackBerry - œосква и ŸодмосковŒе (http://www.mts.ru/phones/models/blackberry/)

And market pricing (including Gorbushka-located companies) here:
Price.RU - blackberry | со‚ов‹е ‚еле„он‹, сма€‚„он‹ и коммƒника‚ | Цен‹, описания, обз, „о€ƒм‹ (http://www.price.ru/bin/price/prodlist?curr=2&base=1&pnam=blackberry&vcid=01010401&where=00&cid=2801&sort=5)

Regarding Zamzung and Nokia - which models you mean? US cellular networks parameters differ from Russian and EU, so don't buy blind way to avoid problems.

is there anything from America that Russians want that you can't buy in Russia? - I think nothing besides freshly prepared food. All other products are available via online shopping, only price differs.

Which ones? You can't order them online with delivery or it's just too expensive?

You're right... First and last (known for the moment) time it was 19 yrs ago, at the beginning of catastroika, and, I should say, the situation was quite worser...

But - anyway - what do you seek, maybe I can help somehow? Have you inspected all infants shopping centers/markets as Savenok (near m. Savelovskaya), market near m. Kolomenskaya, Persei at Mikluho-Maklay street, then Yandex search like this http://yandex.ru/yandsearch?stype=&nl=0&text=%D1%82%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%B0%D1%80%D1%8B+%D0%B4%D0%BB%D1%8F+%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%BE%D0%B6%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%BD%D1%8B%D1%85 ?

Andy, thanks for your excellent reply. While it's not for babies, I think you may not find Wild Turkey Rye Whiskey in Moscow. I'm sure you can find Wild Turkey Bourbon, but not Rye. It's hard enough to find even in the US. But, at least in Moscow and on the Internet, I'm sure everything's available. Thanks.:11629:

Thanks for thanks ;)
