I find the information on this site fairly accurate.

Can't we just close Moscow for the next 5 months and all go to sleep? Wake up when it begins to get warmer?

Pooty Poot? What say you, sir?

Many more suicides are committed in November (and March) than in any other month.

Aren't we in a morbid mood, Allice :(

I think it's time to take you out again.

The best is http://www.pogoda.ru/Moskva/. It has links to many sites in English and Russian - from different sources. It makes it easy to compare.

I'm all for that, Ghost!!!

I say we close everything, sleep until mid-May...and ask that summer be extended for a few months in future years!!!

Sometimes I want to be a bear to sleep during cold Moscow winters because I hate frosts.

But I do go out. Not too often -- once a week, but I do. As of late I even have escort. :)

Well, actually, we do have that already. It's just that it's spread throughout the year. If you add together New Years/Christmas holidays (January), Women's and Defender's (Feb and March) Labor and Victory days (May), the little revolution and constitution days, and all the time everyone and their grandma spends at the dacha all summer, it adds up to about 7 months of time when anyone can really get any work done.

Say, Mr Pooty Poot, I hear you have some pull locally!

Any chance on getting a good price on a case of that Flagman Vodka?:drink:

Move to Vladivostok.
The weather is great here. Sunny, warm, still in shirt sleeves.

nope, it is cold in Vladivostok. I prefer warm countries but will never ever move there - Moskwa is my homeland:)

One of my favorite things about Moscow and Russia in general is that life changes very little in the winter. Somehow, someway the place is set up to handle the nasty winters, and life just goes on as usual. Go to DC and see what happens after a 15 CM snow storm. The place just grinds to a halt. Here? It's just another day. I love it!

Beach and swimming. Nice Islands off the coast. Good night life, not as good as Moscow but not bad. Travel to Japan, China, Korea all only a couple of hours away. S.E Asia only 5 1/2 hours away.
Salaries are better (for expats anyway) and life is cheaper.

This will be my 3rd winter in Vlad. now and we havn't had any heating problems. There have been water problems but they seem to have fixed them as i've had hot and cold water for quite a while.
Maybe the new mayor's not so bad after all!

Suggestion: All those who feel like hybernating in the Winter season in Moscow: we all can put some $$$ together and rent a small but cozy island somewhere near Madagascar... ideally - with existing accomodation facilities already.
Also - lease a plane.
Then go there every time when it is getting too unbearable. Pay only for food and drinks. :D
It can be called something like "Moscow Winter Survivors' Club" :D

Waddaya say, ppl?

Sunstorm, don't you think it's quite far? Nice idea anyway:) I prefer to go to Piatigorsk for a weekend...Only minus there is that there is no sea..
