I started to analyse the market of the 3G internet in Russia (S.Petersburg).
It seems to be 3 mobile companies which have the licences to provide it in Russia. They are:
- MTC
- Megafon
- Beeline

It is rather new thing so the quality might be still not so good or?
Which mobile company would you recommend to choose?

Try to check 3G coverage and Internet speed for all of them with different simcards of every operator at locations you interest in. It is easiest way. Don't forget that Moscow will not have 3G widespread for 6 months more at least, and also keep in mind SkyLink (in Spb, Moscow and some other cities).

Thanks for good advice!
At the moment I cant try any of them, because I m still not there. Wanted to get some info before.
And how is it going with the Skylink?

I'm in Moscow, and, according to my Spb colleagues feedback Internet access quality depends on location, day/night time, croud density etc.
Skylink is historically first 3G network in Russian Federation - it is using old infrastructure of NMT-450 analogue network, but with modern "last-mile" RF eqiupment for CDMA... in 450 MHZ band though. And it has started especially in Spb, so traditionally they're most powerful there. I can't say more because don't use 3G or Skylink yet (it's enough of wired Internet at home and jobplace and you can find WiFi hospots via http://kuda.yandex.ru/wifi/) but you can try to search for Skylink coverage on their website - http://www.skylink.ru/pages/zone.aspx (http://www.skylink.ru/pages/zone.aspx?&r=78) (1x means 1st gen 153 kbps, EVDO - 2nd gen 3Mbps, RevA - up to 7Mbps) - as well as for 3G coverage on Big Three websites too.
Therу is also mobile WiMax operator Yota (http://www.yota.ru/en/coverage/).
