My boss is going and he's even letting us go at 4:30 pm today. Says he really thinks we should all go - but no pushing. I won't go cause I think it is not very safe (hundreds of thousands of ppl there could kill each other, no terrorists required) but wanted to know if anyone is going and what your opinions are. Mine is that, unfortunately, there is absolutely nothing any of us can do to help the families of the dead now, so why be in a crowded place putting your own life in danger. Or is it perfectly safe and I am just not being supportive enough.

There was stuff like this all over the States 3 years ago. Usually when everyone expects something to happen it doesn't - like at the New Year's celebration on Times Square.

True but, like I said, when there's that many people accidents happen, no terrorists required.

Accidents will not happen. Jittery underpaid cops/soldiers hired to guard the event happen.

Exactly.

I think it's pretty safe. Then again, if it's our time to go, we'll go

What on earth are you talking about? Our time to go?

I am not really sure. People gathering to mourn for the dead I think.

to go meaning to leave this world

According to the flyer I got, it is clearly a demonstration; there is no mention of a memorial of any kind.

I got that. Okay so if we're meant to die today we'll die? Great attitude I tell ya. Were the kids meant to die the other day?

Not for me to tell. I'm not God.

Think about this, some people trip while slowly walking, fall down and die, and some people survive a 9000 foot fall with unopened parashute. I believe that when it's our time to go, we'll go.

What is the point? Russia knows it needs to do it, demonstating is like closing the broken barn door after all the horses have meandered off, and its raining...

Len, Isecond that.
What's the point to go there now? To show off your feelings?

That is about how I feel, MM - but people need to show solidarity now (although I believe this demonstration is staged). I am not going myself, and none of my employees has asked permission to leave early in order to go, although I would most certainly grant same.

Yup. My point exactly.

My point exactly was on this. Now lighting a candle tonight at 9 pm, that we can do.

I used to think that. I don't anymore.

Everything is a calculated risk. Coming to Russia was a calculated risk. Sometimes you lose. I don't believe in fate though.

personally i don't see a concrete use of this demonstration, however, for some people it really can mean something - they might feel safer and stronger just by going and standing there and by feeling the unity. i'm sure it will be packed, just because it's very like a russian spirit. some people just go to the blood centers and give what they can give...
