If you want to go ice skating in Moscow, but do not know exactly where to go and what place is good, I would recommend this place (http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.skating-palace.ru%2F&hl=ru&ie=UTF-8&sl=ru&tl=en)

it is a speed skating arena, so it's very big inside, unlike hockey arenas. Here are some pictures:

it's in Krylatskoe, here's the map (http://maps.yandex.ru/moscow?upoint=09a1c77964f4)
if you have a car it should be very easy to get there, if not... well, you can get to Krylatskoe or Molodejnaya metro stations and get a car there, anyone would get you to that skating arena for 50-100r, because that's just about 2 minutes by car

usually it's opened every weekends, but sometimes ice skating may be canceled because of some sport events, so it's better to check the schedule before going there

the price is 200 roubles for 2 hours session, you can also rent skates, which would cost you another 150 roubles (and you need to give in 1500 roubles bail or some ID)

the amount of people there depends on the session, usually the one at 7pm is the most crowded, but it's still ok

I usually go there every weekends in the evening, so if you want to join - feel free to PM me or make here a post, if many people are interested in going out ice skating we can get all together

Thank you Strider for this useful info ! :)
ice skating - it's so good! Unfortunately, Krylatskoe is so far from my Izmaylovo.
As for me, Iam looking forward to winter time for skating in open area with fresh air and some disco! :mml:

but ice skating places in open air usually have bad ice (or maybe it's better to say TERRIBLE :) ), and it also has to be very cold outside for them to work

and here they make new ice before every session, the temperature there is about +10 +15, so you can skate in just a shirt

but yes, everyone has his own preferences :)

I would also like to join at some point (perhaps not this weekend), however, i am a girl from the tropics, so i have only ice skated once or twice. I used to rollerblade over 10 years ago, so at some point i had some balance, maybe not now! Do you know if they offer skate lessons, in english?? my russian is very very minimal!

1) use knee/elbow pads
2) always lean forward

that's how you fall without getting much bruises :)

this arena isn't available for skating today because of some speed skating world cup event, so it's only next weekends
