View Full Version : Where to buy crickets for snacking?

This is absolutely out of left field, I know, but... over the weekend I found a crow with a smashed wing, truly broken, and I brought it home, thinking I'd adopt it if a vet determines that it will never fly again. I'm trying to get the folks at the Green Parrot bird clinic to treat it; in the meantime, the bird apparently needs to eat insects (among other, easier-to-find foods). The Beethoven store near Leninsky Prospect does not carry insects. Has anybody encountered an exotic pet store in Moscow that does carry them?

Aqua Logo (also on Leninsky) stock reptiles etc so it might be an idea to give them a call.

I just want to say that I found the Green Parrot clinic (in the village of Balashikha; take minibus 291 to Torsovet from Metro Shosse Entuziastov; dom 1) is very helpful. They will care for any injured wild bird brought to them, and you may donate what you wish toward the animal's care. At least one veterinary technician speaks English, and the facility, while somewhat small and shabby, is at least as good as any wildlife rehab center that I've seen in the US. If anyone finds a sick/hurt bird in the city and would like to help, the Green Parrot is a great resource.

So how is the patient doing?

Every time I see a magpie now, I think about your rescue . . .

The injury was old and she (as it turns out) will never fly again, and thus cannot be returned to the street. So she'll live out her days with a dozen other, similarly handicapped crows cared for by the clinic.
Thanks for asking!
