Vorobyovy Gory
From Moscowiki
Vorobyovy Gory (Sparrow Hills) is one of those seven hills on which Moscow is supposed to stand. In the 15th century one noble lady bought a village here from a priest called Vorobey. In the Soviet times it was called Leninskiye Gory after Lenin. At the foot of the hill Andreyevsky monastery was founded in the 17th century.
In front of the facade facing the Moscow-river there is a big square and a lovely alley decorated with busts of famous Russian scientists. The alley leads to the best observation point of the city; tourists are brought here to enjoy the panoramic sight of Moscow. Other visitors are souvenir sellers, new-wed couples (in the day-time), Moscow bikers and school children on their prom day (in the night-time); in winter you can also observe snow-boarders and alpine skiers on the hill underneath.
