[edit] Description

The state museum of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 is the part of the memorial complex at Poklonnaya Gora. In honour of the 50th anniversary of the Victory in the World War II a great memorial complex was constructed at Poklonnaya Gora. The central part of the complex is The State Museum of the Great Patriotic War devoted to the great courage of the Russians defending their Motherland. Entering the museum you get in the Hall of Memory and Sorrow which immortalizes about 27 million Soviet people who perished in 1941-1945. Here you can see an All-Russian Memorial Book – dozens of volumes, enumerating all those who haven’t come back home from the war.

[edit] Exposition

The principal part of the museum is the War-History exposition rendering the whole course of war. The exposition is divided into three parts according to three periods of the War – from the perfidious fascist aggression in 1941 to the victory in 1945. And walking through these halls you somehow walk through the events of the War. Looking at the battle maps and schemes you can imagine the course of the main military operations, such as Stalingradskaya battle or the capture of Berlin. Practically all the examples of Soviet military equipment, artillery ammunition, uniform of the Red Army soldiers and generals are presented here. The exposition is accompanied by a great number of photos reproducing the reality of the war. The third hall devoted to the last days of the war has a very interesting exhibit - a fragment of Reichstag wall with the signatures of soldiers, who have managed to reach Berlin and make the final step towards the victory.

[edit] Dioramas of the Famous Battles

The relief model of the locality makes a viewer closer to the place of the main events, creates a presence effect, which strengthens the feeling of a direct participation. Here you can see a picture of Kurskaya battle, the greatest tank battle in the world history and the turning point of the war. According to Soviet returns, in this operation Russian red army has annihilated about 30 enemy divisions (including 7 armoured divisions) and 3500 warplanes. The defeat of Hitler’s army in this battle caused the crisis within fascists and signed their forthcoming crush.

[edit] Open-air Exhibition

Open-air exhibition includes famous “Katyusha”, different tanks, cannons, mortars and other examples of Soviet military equipment. There are also examples of unrestored equipment, such as fragments of the German plane “Unckers” found in a bog.
