Designed by the same architect, Konstantine Ton, State Armory (part of Kremlin), or Oruzhejnaya palata was designed by Konstantine Ton. The building of the State Armory looks very much alike the Great Kremlin Palace. This building, erected in 1851 on the place of demolished Konyushenny (Stabling) Yard, was supposed to keep and exhibit the riches of the Royal Treasury. This is one of the first erections in Russia specially built for museum purposes. Long ago the Armory was a Kremlin workshop where the splendid arms and amours were made. Moscow Armory as a museum traces its history since 1709 when Peter the Great ordered to transfer here the trophies of the Poltavskaya battle.
Nine spacious halls of the museum keep the treasures of Russian Tsars and emperors: their dresses, adornments, gold and silver plates and dishes, luxurious thrones and various expensive trifles. Special impressive halls are devoted to the cold - and firearms, royal carriages and even dress harnesses (with the real stuffed horses decorated as royal ones). The famous eggs made in the House of Faberge in St.- Petersburg can be also found here. The exhibition of State Diamond (Almazny) fund representing the outstanding collection of royal jewelry is open on the ground floor since 1967.
