Museum of Russian Literature of the 20th Century is a branch of State Literature Museum. The museum is situated in an early 19th century mansion, which formerly belonged to the Russian painter, collector and patron of art Ivan Ostroukhov. His collection of paintings by outstanding Russian (Mikhail Vrubel, Ilya Repin, Issak Levitan) and foreign artists (Edgar Degas, Auguste Renoir, Henri Matisse) and Russian icons are now partly included into the permanent expositions of Tretyakov Gallery and State Pushkin Fine Arts Museum.

The museum itself represents the history of Russian literature of the 20th century; it holds temporary exhibitions of creative work of such outstanding Russian men of letters as Nikolay Berdyaev, Osip Mandelshtam, Bulat Okudzhava, Alexander Galich, Yury Olesha, and others. Thematic exhibitions devoted, for example, to Russian emigration and modern art are also on display.
