Museum of Private Collections is a branch of Pushkin Fine Arts Museum since 1985. The museum, which was opened for public only in 1994, greatly differs from its “big brother”, being a quite, cozy place, where your mind and heart will peacefully enjoy the calm homelike atmosphere.

Museum offers private collections of families of artists and famous collectors, who donated their collections for this Museum. A founder of the Museum, literary critic, author of several books, Ph.D. in art history Dr. Ilya S. Zillberstein owned a large collection of more than 2000 pieces of art. Among other donators were E. Stepanov, T. Mavrina, and families of artists - daughter of artists Rodchenko and Stepanova, Shterenberg’s children.
[edit] Zillberstein’s Collection
Zillberstein’s collection includes an exclusive series of Russian Decabrists’ portraits by N. Bestuzhev, a large number of landscapes by Repin, Serov, Vrubel, Polenov, Shishkin and some other world-known Russian artists. An excellent collection “World of Art” shows the works by all artists of this society – A. Benua, K. Somov, M. Dobuzhinsky, B. Kustodiev, Z. Serebryakova, etc.

A unique Lemkuls’ collection of glassware acquaints the visitors with the examples of antique, Chinese, Indian, German, Italian and Russian decorative and applied art of different centuries.
[edit] Sergey Tretyakov's Collection
Sergey Tretyakov, the younger brother of Pavel Tretyakov, who established the Tretyakov gallery, was an art-lover as well, and his collection of European art is also exhibited in the Museum. It consists of the canvasses of French, German, Dutch and Spanish artists.

The collection of Svyatoslav Rikhter, a world-famous Russian pianist, occupies several rooms on the third floor of the Museum. He never collected anything, but had a great number of friends and admirers among artistic people, who presented him with various paintings and other pieces of art.

The ancient Russian icons of XVI-XVIII centuries will also be of great interest for the visitors, and the works by Kandinsky, Manevich, Tyshler, etc. are the bright examples of different styles of modern art.[edit] Photos
