[edit] Description

Church of Pokrov in Fili. Museum of Russian Culture and Art of the late XVII Century is a branch of Andrey Rublev’s Central Museum of Old Russian Culture and Art. The church was erected in 1693 in the former residence of Prince Lev Naryshkin, uncle of Peter the Great. The multi-tiered building of the church, built in “naryshkinskoe baroque” style , combines red brick walls and the intricate white-stone fretwork on the facade.

It is not only a church, but also a museum representing the exposition of the temple art of 17th century and the carving art of 17th-19th centuries. All the exhibits are set out on the second floor, where the original interior of the 17th century is preserved: the magnificent gilded iconostasis, wall painting and oak floor. The interior of the first floor was plundered and defiled by French soldiers during the war of 1812 and, unfortunately, is not restored yet.
