This is a beautiful two-storied house of red brick where the celebrated Russian playwright and doctor Anton Chekhov (“Cherry-Tree Garden”) lived in 1886 – 1890. He used to call this detached house “a bureau” for its strange shape. Exposition of the museum contains the portrait of the playwright by famous Russian painter Valentin Serov, some editions published in Chekhov’s lifetime and photographs of the playwright himself, his family and friends, among which were such outstanding personalities as the great Russian composer Petr Chaikovsky, theater producer Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko, painter Isaac Levitan, and others.
