    Kairouan

Kairouan (Arabic: القيروان‎‎ About this sound Qeirwān, also known as al-Qayrawan, is the capital of the Kairouan Governorate in Tunisia. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The city was founded by the Umayyads around 670.[1] In the period of Caliph Mu'awiya (reigned 661680), it became an important centre for Sunni Islamic scholarship and Quranic learning,[2] and thus attracting a large number of Muslims from various parts of the world, next only to Mecca and Medina. The holy Mosque of Uqba is situated in the city.[3][4]
In 2014, the city had about 186,653 inhabitants.

Yesterday, I visited Abu Dhabi's Grand Mosque and learnt that the World's largest Mosque is not at Mecca, nor Medina, but is in Morocco!

Their wealth and political power is the reason why in the 16th century Britain formed an alliance with Morocco's Sultans!

The Koutoubia Mosque or Kutubiyya Mosque (Arabic: جامع الكتبية‎‎ Arabic pronunciation: [jaːmiʕu‿lkutubijːa(h)]) is the largest mosque in Marrakesh, Morocco. The mosque is also known by several other names, such as Jami' al-Kutubiyah, Kotoubia Mosque, Kutubiya Mosque, Kutubiyyin Mosque, and Mosque of the Booksellers. It is located in the southwest medina quarter of Marrakesh.[1] The mosque is ornamented with curved windows, a band of ceramic inlay, pointed merlons, and decorative arches; it has a large plaza with gardens, and is floodlit at night.[2] The minaret, 77 metres (253 ft) in height, includes a spire and orbs. It was completed under the reign of the Berber Almohad Caliph Yaqub al-Mansur (1184 to 1199), and has inspired other buildings such as the Giralda of Seville and the Hassan Tower of Rabat
